Strontium, a mineral that is present in foods and drinking water in amounts dependent on soil concentrations. Dr. Harry K. Genant, executive director of the Osteoporosis and Arthritis Research Group at UC San Francisco, and the advisor of the study, said that "In its favor, strontium is easily absorbed, safe and free of the side effects associated with some osteoporosis therapies."
Things to Watch Out For
Women who are pregnant or nursing should always talk with a physician before beginning strontium supplementation.
If you'd like to add the mineral to your regimen, and are a person taking a prescription osteoporosis product, make sure you have a word with your doctor first. It is important that you do not stop taking your medication to begin strontium supplementation.
Strontium, taken in high doses, has been known to cause diarrhea in some people.
